Armenian human rights defender Arman Tatoyan shares the concerns of human rights defenders, non-governmental organizations, including the international human rights organization Freedom House, in connection with the criminal prosecution of the head of the Yazidi Center for Human Rights Sashik Sultanyan. According to the Ombudsman, this concern should be duly considered. According to the office of the Human Rights Defender, the official response of the Prosecutor General's Office on August 5 to the statements of human rights defenders and NGOs regarding the rights of Sashik Sultanyan contains dangerous accents, which causes additional concern.
Therefore, a letter from the office of the Human Rights Defender will be sent to the Prosecutor General's Office for additional explanations. From the very beginning of the criminal prosecution, Sashik Sultanyan started the process of protecting his rights on his own initiative. Several international Armenian organizations have appealed to the Human Rights Defender about the legality of criminal prosecution against him. The validity of the charges brought against Sultanyan under paragraph 1 of part 2 of Article 226 of the RA Criminal Code, which provides for responsibility for inciting national, racial, or religious hatred, must be confirmed by concrete evidence. It should be noted that the Yazidi human rights activist, the head of the Yazidi Center for Human Rights, Sashik Sultanyan, is accused of inciting national, racial or religious discord between the Armenian and Yazidi peoples.
The criminal case was initiated by the National Security Service (NSS) based on an interview with Sultanyan yezidinews.com" It is the investigative body that provokes the hostility, there are many Yazidis who are simply outraged by this attitude now, "said Sashik Sultanyan." The journalist, without my knowledge, published an interview in which we talked about the problems of the Yazidi community. Since this was a personal conversation, I spoke in a simple, open text, at the same time, I did not publish such information that could provoke hostility. That is, the conversation about problems pursues only one goal: if there are problems somewhere, cases that, for example, may violate the rights of a citizen, these problems must be solved, and we represent friendship in this way," Sultanyan said.
