The Iraqi government has started paying compensation to relatives of Yazidis who have become victims of the terrorist group ISIS, but many family members say that this process is difficult, and in some cases impossible.

The Iraqi Martyrs Foundation opened an office in Shangal two weeks ago and has so far received more than 200 victims from ISIS.

The families of the dead and missing will receive monthly benefits from the Government in the amount of 1,200,000 dinars (US $ 822). But for registration, identity documents are required, which many do not have.

Zozan Qasim spent almost two million dinars ($1,370) trying to get a new identity card to start the process of receiving benefits, since her husband has been missing since 2014.

"There are problems in the Iraqi institutions, they do not issue documents. I spent a lot of money on this. I also hired a lawyer, but to no avail, " says Zozan.

And she's not the only one. Baza Salih, whose daughter has disappeared, went to the fund several times with the appropriate documents for assigning benefits, but all to no avail.

The Yazidi minority suffered from the terrorist group ISIL, which launched a genocide against the Yazidis. In the summer of 2014, when they captured northern Iraq. Thousands of people were killed, abducted and enslaved by the militants.

More than 2,000 people are still missing.
