Today Georgia will receive the next batch of Pfizer vaccine – 168 thousand doses, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze said.

The Ministry of Health of Georgia said that it will be possible to get vaccinated with Pfizer in outpatient institutions, and not only in clinics.

This decision was made based on the large amount of the vaccine, as well as the experience gained and taking into account the side effects after vaccinations, which turned out to be minimal, Deputy Minister Tamar Gabunia noted.

According to her, about seven medical institutions have expressed their readiness to join the Pfizer vaccination program.

The Immunization Council also considered the issue of activating the process of vaccination of villagers.

District medical centers were assigned to vaccinate local residents with Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines.

The institutions of the district center will operate in 66 districts. They will work to provide the appropriate service to the rural population.

Gabunia also reported that during the vaccination of adolescents from 16 to 18 years of age with Pfizer, no serious complications were detected.

"The process has already begun. Several dozen have already been vaccinated, including students. There were about 20 students who left the country, and they made Pfizer. This process continues without any complications and problems, " Gabunia said.

At the moment, vaccination of persons from the age of 16 is allowed in Georgia. They can be vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine.

Citizens who are over 18 years old can choose between Sinopharm, Sinovac and Pfizer vaccines.

Citizens over the age of 45 can choose between Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines.

Georgia is currently waiting for the WHO's recommendation on lowering the age limit for vaccination. In the case of the WHO recommendation, Georgia is ready to start vaccinating teenagers from the age of 12 with Pfizer.
