Two new electric substations will be built in Georgia by a Greek company

The Greek company Mytilineos S. A. (Metka) has signed a contract with the State Electric System of Georgia for the construction of new substations in Georgia worth 36 million euros, the Georgian company said in a statement.

According to the document, within the framework of the project, Mytilineos S. A. will build two new substations in Ozurgeti and Lajanuri, as well as expand the Akhaltsikhe-500 substation.

According to the State Electric System of Georgia, the implementation of the project will meet the growing demand for electricity in Adjara and Guria, as well as increase the export potential of the country and develop infrastructure that will facilitate the integration of new hydroelectric power plants into the transmission system. The construction of new substations in Ozurgeti, Layanuri and the expansion of Akhaltsikhe-500 will begin in stages, and will be completed in 2023-2024.

The construction is carried out within the framework of the Georgian Power Transmission Network Expansion Program (ENIP). After the completion of the program by the end of 2026, five substations will be built and expanded in Georgia, and the total length of power transmission lines will be about 500 km.

The ENIP program includes funding from the German Bank for Reconstruction and Development (KfW), co-financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and a grant from the European Neighborhood Investment Platform (EU NIP). The estimated total investment of the program is 325 million euros.
