On June 30, 2021, the Foreign Relations Committee of the Belgian Federal Parliament voted by a majority vote to recognize the genocide committed by the terrorist group ISIL against the Yazidi religious minority in Sinjar. The recognition of the genocide took place after a Belgian delegation led by MP George Dallman and Philip Fastenskape - the head of the Organization of Victims of Terrorism in France and Belgium, as well as with the participation of several French and Belgian journalists in Kurdistan and eastern Syria. On January 28 of this year, a proposal on a resolution on the recognition and prosecution of genocide crimes committed against the Yazidis was submitted to the Parliament for discussion.

The International Yazidi Foundation against Genocide, which has been following the project from the very beginning through its contacts, has a copy of the draft resolution in Dutch and French. The resolution consists of ten pages, which contains many details of the crimes of ISIS against the Yazidis, as well as a legal description and a reference to international criminal law, as well as praising the decisions taken in the world related to the call for:

1. To recognize all Belgian institutions, both inside and outside the country, in order to declare the crimes of ISIS committed against the Yazidis as genocide.

2. Criminals in Iraq and Syria in general should not go unpunished.

3. To intensify the efforts of the Belgian Court to identify and prosecute any Belgian involved in crimes against the Yazidi community.

4. The invitation of the Belgian Government to provide assistance to the Yazidis who wish to return to their original towns and villages, subject to the implementation of the agreement between the Government of Iraqi Kurdistan and the central government in Baghdad and international means with an offer to monitor this agreement.

5. The need for Belgium to contribute to the reconstruction of affected towns and villages.

6. Providing specific humanitarian assistance to those women and girls who have suffered from sexual violence, slavery or other inhuman or degrading treatment.

In the same context, Dr. Dolor Azkai posted on his personal Facebook page his gratitude for the work done to all members of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Belgian Federal Parliament for this decision. Special thanks to George Dallman and his colleagues. All those who supported, contributed to and participated in the success of this decision in the Kurdistan Government (Professor Sven Dizi and Dr. Dolor Azkai), as well as Rudy Malak, a Kurdish journalist from Qamishlo, who lives in Belgium, who accompanied the delegation during its trips.

Note: A unanimous vote was held in the Foreign Relations Committee, so only a procedural vote remained in the Belgian parliament to make the decision in its official legal form on July 15, 2021.
