Diehl met with Kurdish leader and chairman of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Masoud Barzani in Erbil on Wednesday to discuss the latest political, security and humanitarian situation in the region.
Mustafa Barzani assured the ambassador that the camps of Yazidi refugees and displaced persons are provided at the proper level, and the residents do not have any problems.
But according to reliable sources, it is known that the Yazidi refugees, 7 years after the ISIS attack, are in terrible conditions. Yazidis live in tents, without any infrastructure, medical care, and humanitarian aid practically does not reach the Yazidi refugees, or rather it is stolen by Kurdish officials. There are no means of subsistence, as well as jobs that would somehow feed their families. And with all this, Kurdistan reports to Europe that everything is fine and good for the Yazidis. Recently, ISIL sleeper cells have also become more active. They incite Arabs and Kurds against the Yazidi population based on their religious affiliation. Unfortunately, the German Ambassador is not aware of the true situation of the Yazidi refugees and displaced persons.
The outgoing ambassador stressed that Germany is working with Kurdistan, which is considered an important partner in the region, Barzani's headquarters said in a statement.
Regarding the upcoming elections in Iraq, Ambassador Diehl said that his country is ready to help Iraq through the United Nations and European Union missions.
