The Ministry of Migration and Displacement of Iraq reported that there are still more than 37,000 families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the camps of the Kurdistan Region, most of which are Yezidi families.
Hoshang Mohammed, an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kurdistan Region, said earlier that the Yazidi refugees do not want to return to their areas of origin, they refused to leave the camps, instead more and more people are returning to the camps.
Yezidi refugees respond to such statements by officials to local Internet media: "the information that we do not want to return to our places of residence is a false provocation, we simply have nowhere to return to. Our houses are destroyed, there is no infrastructure, roads, schools, hospitals, shops, state institutions, there is nothing, most of the towns and villages are in ruins where should we go?
We are asking for help from the international community. Either they will help us here or we will be forced to flee to Europe, otherwise we will all die here."
Acting Minister of Migration and Displacement Karim Nuri noted in a statement that 39,214 IDP families are currently based in various camps in the Kurdistan Region and Anbar and Nineveh provinces.
To date, the Federal Government of Iraq has facilitated the return of 134,000 Yazidi IDP families to their places of residence.
After the attack of the Islamic State terrorist group ISIS on Iraq in 2014, the Kurdistan region received almost two million internally displaced persons. Most of the Yazidi IDPs who have not returned to their hometowns believe that they will not find safe living conditions due to instability in their areas and lack of public services.
In some cases, some IDPs returned to camps in the Kurdistan Region after they faced unbearable living conditions in their hometowns.
