"Let's unite and stand up for our rights." The Yazidi National Union has a new president

Today, on February 22, a congress of the National Union of Yezidis was held at the Moscow cinema in Yerevan, at which the new president was elected by a majority of votes by the members of the Union presidency.

Let us remind you that the president of the Yezidi National Union, leader Aziz Tamoyan, passed away on January 2 this year. He was 83 years old and has been leading the organization since 1988, for almost 33 years. A man who has devoted his whole life to preserving the identity of the Yezidi people, strengthening the Armenian-Yezidi friendship. This is described in a documentary film dedicated to Aziz Tamoyan. Then the screen showed video messages from the leaders of the Yezidi international organizations who could not attend the congress. Special messages were sent by the spiritual leader of the Yezidis of Shangal, Emir Naif bin Daud, the head of the Yezidi community of Canada, Sheh Mirza Ismail, the commander of the Yezidi military detachment from Iraq Ali Isa (Hal Ali), the deputy chairman of the Progressive Yezidi Movement of the Iraqi Party Amar Kito. The screen also showed video messages from the heads of the Yezidi structures of the USA, Germany, Sweden, France and Russia.

The members of the chairmanship of the National Union of Yezidis Rostam Shamoyan, Surik Ajoyan, Ayser Isayan, Kyaram Sloyan, Aziz Avdalyan, spiritual leader of the Yezidis of Armenia Bro Hasanyan, Hamlet Hajoyan spoke at the congress. Arman Abovyan, a deputy of the RA National Assembly from the “Prosperous Armenia” party, a representative of the Supreme Council of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Artsvik Minasyan, head of the Department of Religious Affairs and National Minorities under the RA Government Vardan Astsatryan and Professor Garnik Asatryan also spoke.

The only candidate for the presidency of the Yazidi National Union was the grandson of Aziz Tamoyan, Khdr Ajoyan (Tamoyan). In his speech he noted that the invaluable legacy left by his great teacher Aziz Tamoyan proves his eternal presence. Khdr Ajoyan (Tamoyan) considers today's elections not just a personal choice, but a guarantee of the preservation and development of the rights of the Yezidi people, religion, language, national values, culture, education, as well as centuries-old Armenian - Yezidi friendship. “Be sure that all the problems facing our people are solvable, and difficulties, of course, can be overcome only thanks to our unity, our joint efforts. The path that we must travel is not easy, but your patriotism and commitment to preserving national values ​​strengthen me so that I continue with even more energy the sacred work that we inherited from the great Aziz Tamoyan and his supporters. So let's unite and stand up for our rights. “Long live Yezidihan, long live Armenia, long live the Armenian-Yezidi unity,” said Khdr Ajoyan.

During the congress, Khdr Ajoyan (Tamoyan) was elected president of the Yazidi National Union by a majority vote of the total number of presidential members. He is 31 years old, a lawyer, orientalist by profession, married, has one son.
