The administration of President Donald trump plans to tighten the rules for issuing visas for foreign women who come to the United States to give birth to automatically obtain American citizenship for their children, Axios reports, citing three White house employees.
Birthright citizenship is guaranteed by the 14th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This provision was called "frankly ridiculous"by President Donald trump.

The changes relate to type B visas that are issued for short-term entry for tourist or business purposes. Employees of the state Department will have the opportunity to refuse the document if they believe that the applicant receives a visa for the purpose of later granting citizenship to his child.
"The practical problem is that very few people who give birth in the United States have received a visa specifically for this purpose. Most already have a visa, and they come after that, " Jeffrey Gorsky, a former General counsel in the state Department's visa Department, explained to the newspaper.
According to sources, this is only one of the measures being prepared to combat "maternity tourism".
According to estimates of the center for immigration research, which is close to the trump administration, about 33 thousand children of foreigners are born in the US every year.
