The government of Georgia has approved the concept of renewable energy projects for the construction of wind farms near Tbilisi and the Caspian sea, according to the investment company Georgia Capital.

We are talking about power plants with a capacity of 108 megawatts (MW).

Construction of both stations is planned in parallel, and commissioning is scheduled for 2022.

According to the company, an agreement should be reached in the near future in connection with contracts for guaranteed purchases of electricity.

As previously stated in the Ministry of Economy of Georgia, in 2020, five new wind farms with a total capacity of 270 megawatts will start operating in Georgia. By the end of 2020, the country will be able to get 332 MW from wind farms, 665 MW by 2025, and more than 1.3 thousand MW by 2030. Today, Georgia has one 20 MW Kartli wind farm in Gori.

The demand for electricity in Georgia is growing from year to year. From 2016 to 2018, the country's electricity use increased by 6%, while local production increased by only 5%. As a result, Georgia tripled its purchases of electricity from neighboring countries.
