Chairman of the Yazidi Congress met with the new Iraqi Ambassador to Russia

As previously reported , in the first half of December 2019, the Chairman of the Yazidi Congress, Professor Samvel Kochoi, addressed a letter to the Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Iraq to Russia, in which he outlined his vision of the part of the constitutional reform in Iraq that concerns the status of one of the indigenous peoples of this state – the Yazidis. In response to this letter, the new Iraqi Ambassador, Dr. Abdulrahman Hamid Mohammed al-Husseini invited Samvel Kochoi to a meeting in the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq. Ruslan Javoyan, Deputy Chairman of the Yazidi Congress, also took part in the meeting on December 30.

The meeting participants discussed the issues raised in the letter of the Chairman of the Yazidi Congress. In turn, Dr. Abdulrahman Hamid Mohammed al-Husseini spoke about his personal concern and the concern of the government of Iraq about the situation of Yazidis in Shangal and, in particular, the lack of results in finding the whereabouts of nearly three thousand Yazidi women and girls kidnapped by terrorists. He promised that the government of Iraq would continue to make every effort to find them and rescue them from captivity. Mr. Ambassador also invited Yazidi business circles from Russia to take part in the restoration of the infrastructure of Shangal destroyed by the war with terrorists.

In conclusion, Professor Samvel Kochoi and Dr. Abdulrahman Hamid Mohammed al-Husseini agreed to continue cooperation on issues of interest to the Yazidi Congress and the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Russia.
