Armenia should become a transit country for electricity supplies from Russia to Iran and build a high voltage power line

At present, a 400 kilovolt high voltage line between Georgia and Armenia is being designed with DC input, Minister of territorial administration and infrastructure Suren Papikyan said at a press conference at The Armenian nuclear power plant, Sputnik Armenia reports.

According to him, Armenia continues to build its sections of the Russia – Georgia – Armenia – Iran electricity corridor. The high-voltage transmission line from Iran to Armenia, with a voltage of 400 kilovolts, will be completed in 2020.

"Then Armenia will be able to become a transit country of electricity not only for Georgia and Iran, but also for the EAEU countries, in particular for Russia," Papikyan said.

The agreement on the quadripartite energy corridor was signed in April 2016 in Yerevan by the energy Ministers of Russia, Armenia and Iran and the Deputy energy Minister of Georgia. After the construction of the Armenian section, a continuous energy corridor with a voltage of at least 400 kilovolts will come into operation between these countries. Thus, its throughput will increase at least three times.
