Georgian foreign Minister David Zalkaliani, who is in London on December 3-4, took part in the NATO Engagements: Innovating the Alliance event, held in parallel with the NATO leaders ' meeting.
Discussing NATO's security positions from the Baltic coast to the Black sea, the Georgian foreign Minister said that "full integration into NATO" is the top priority of Georgia's foreign policy.

Integration into NATO
According to Zalkaliani, Georgia is one of the leading post-graduate countries of NATO, and "it is well known that all the practical tools that the country has help in accelerating the achievement of Georgia's ultimate goal", which should be expressed in "full membership" in the Alliance.
Zalkaliani also noted that the path of Georgia's integration into NATO "is not directed against a third party", and its goal is to strengthen the country's defense capabilities and firmness. "In the black sea region, which is becoming increasingly important for NATO, one of the main security challenges comes from Russia," he said.
Zalkaliani also noted that the decision taken at the Bucharest Summit in 2008 "clearly States that Georgia will become a member of NATO". "We are aware of the current situation in NATO, that a political decision has not yet been made. However, we fully use all practical tools... to accelerate the process of full-scale integration of Georgia, which brings Georgia's final membership closer, " the foreign Minister said.
According to him, despite this, Georgia "already acts as an ally" and adheres to NATO standards, such as NATO's requirement to allocate at least 2% of GDP from the budget for defense. Zalkaliani said that Georgia's indemnity requires counter steps from NATO, and added that Georgia needs "a practical political solution."
According to Zalkaliani, Georgia continues to make efforts and works with all members of the North Atlantic Alliance in a bilateral format in order to increase its capabilities in the field of defense and security. He also noted that the Georgian authorities are doing everything to prepare the country for the relevant moment.
