Lithuanian MP Andrus Kubilius, speaking in the European Parliament, said that the events that have occurred in Georgia recently, raised questions about the democratic future of the country.
"The events unfolding in Georgia cause us concern about the democratic future of the country. One thing is clear, without democracy there will be no integration. The Georgian government has not fulfilled its promise to introduce a proportional electoral system. It is clear that the ruling party made this decision because it was afraid to lose the elections under the proportional system, or because it wants to resort to administrative tricks to win the elections," Kubilius said.
Andrews Kubilius also spoke about the advantages of the German model in connection with Georgia, noting that the Georgian population no longer has confidence in the current model.
"The people no longer trust the old system. The so-called German model can be the best solution to this process, because in this case Georgia will not need constitutional changes, " Kubilius said.
According to him, the European Parliament should help Georgia, sometimes with sharp criticism.
