The Dutch government is not obliged to facilitate the return home from camps in North-Eastern Syria of children of Dutch women who left the country and joined the terrorist organization "Islamic state". The decision was made on Friday by the Hague court of appeal in response to a lower court ruling earlier this month that said the Netherlands should actively help repatriate 56 children from Syrian camps.

Judge Michelle Bonnor: "the conclusion Is that the state did not act unlawfully. All claims must be rejected. The previous verdict rendered during the preliminary trial, in which the claims were partially satisfied, will be overturned."

Earlier this month, the Dutch wives of ISIS fighters in Syrian camps filed a lawsuit to repatriate their children to the Netherlands.

Andre Seebregts, a lawyer representing the women: "It is very disappointing given that these children are very young, six years old and younger, living in such a difficult situation. They can't be blamed for anything."

Earlier, the district court of the Hague ruled that the authorities should, if possible, help to return together and mothers who left at different times from the Netherlands to Syria.

The Dutch government refuses to facilitate their return, claiming that the women voluntarily moved to territories under the control of is and, accordingly, contributed to the activities of the terrorist group.
