The Prime Minister of Georgia discussed with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe the priorities of Georgia's chairmanship in the organization

The discussion of the priorities of Georgia's presidency in the Council of Europe was the main topic of the meeting between Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Maria Pejcinovic-Buric.

According to the press service of the Prime Minister, it was noted at the meeting that Georgia's priorities as the future President of the Council of Europe are based on democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

During the meeting in the government administration, the parties also discussed bilateral cooperation between Georgia and the Council of Europe and an effective plan for 2020-2023, including projects that will be implemented by Georgia together with the Council of Europe at the specified time.

The important positive role of the current action plans in the implementation of democratic reforms in the country was noted. The parties expressed confidence that the future program will have concrete, tangible results.

The meeting discussed the situation in the occupied territories and near the line of occupation, as well as the processes taking place in the Council of Europe on this issue.

The Prime Minister thanked the Secretary-General for her firm support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
