Yazda launches series of trainings on Advocacy and Raising Awareness on Reparations for Survivors of Conflict-Related Sexual Violence with the support of IOM.

The cycle of trainings was launched today in Duhok, Iraq with an introductory meeting between the Yazda representatives and Yazidi survivors of ISIS Genocide. The trainings, scheduled for October, will cover a range of topics including introduction to international law, transitional justice, reparations and advocacy. The women attending expressed strong interest and need for such programs for female survivors and already offered several suggestions and ideas for moving forward.

The aim of this project is to increase knowledge, understanding and awareness about victim’s right to reparation and remedy for serious human rights violations under international law and empower the participants to feel confident and knowledgeable to advocate for their rights and the rights of the Yazidis and other minority communities the region.

The participants are also expected to share their knowledge from this project in training other survivors as well as community members. In time, Yazda hopes, that this initiative will grow into a survivors network where the women can work on diverse topics, such as justice, reparations, ways of moving forward etc. This network would play a key role in a advocating for the Yazidi cause and also provide an internal support network for these women.
