Giorgio de Chirico Exhibition Opens at National Gallery

The National Gallery in Tbilisi is hosting an exhibition of the works of Giorgio de Chirico, known as the founder of metaphysical art movement.

De Chirico’s metaphysical paintings are considered to have profoundly influenced the surrealist movement. He portrayed architecture, gardens, gateways, railway stations and various other city structures in a unique bright light, with sharp shades and clear colors.

The Italian artist and writer was born in Greece in 1888, before founding the metaphysical art movement in the years before world war I.

The exhibition ‘Esoterico de Chirico. Traveler between two Worlds’ will display 15 of his artworks in Tbilisi. Organized by the Georgian National Museum and the Italian Embassy, the exhibition will run until May 27. Located on Shota Rustaveli Avenue, the gallery is open Tuesday - Sunday from 10 am - 5.30 pm.
