Former US Secretary of state and head of ALBRIGHT STONEBRIDGE GROUP Madeleine Albright in a letter responded to the beginning of the project to expand the port of Poti. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of economy and sustainable development.

According to the Agency, in a statement, Albright notes that this project is an indicator of what the United States and Georgia can achieve in working together.

"I am particularly pleased with the strong support of the US government for this project, including an OPIC investment of $ 50 million," said the former us Secretary of state.

According to her, Poti is an important shopping center, and its expansion will help the city to get more benefits.

"This will benefit not only Poti, but also the economic development of Georgia and the entire region," said Madeleine Albright.

Construction of a new port infrastructure is beginning in Poti with funding from the U.S. government's private overseas investment Corporation (OPIC). The event dedicated to the start of construction was attended by members of the Georgian government and Parliament, representatives of the diplomatic corps and foreign guests.

The new port infrastructure project is being implemented by pace Group, one of the largest companies in the region.

The new project provides for the creation of 500 new jobs. The port infrastructure will be located on 25 hectares of land, and as a result of the deepening of the water area it will be possible to accept vessels with a displacement of up to 60 thousand tons. The cost of the project is 120 million us dollars.
