The first direct scheduled flight between Georgia and Switzerland was made from Kutaisi international airport in the direction of Basel, news-Georgia reported, citing the press service of the Association of airports of the country.

Georgian airports received 11% fewer passengers in August

Traditionally, the passengers of the first flight received symbolic gifts-wine and chocolate.

On Tuesday, the world-famous low-cost airline Wizz Air began to gradually carry out regular direct flights to seven destinations-Basel, Brussels, Copenhagen, Eindhoven, Bari, Poznan.

A similar section, but in the interests of Georgia, was opened in Moscow.

With the cessation of direct flights with Russia, attracting tourists from other countries has become even more important for Georgia. Moscow has cancelled direct flights in response to the hype surrounding the arrival of state Duma Deputy Sergei Gavrilov in Tbilisi and the subsequent wave of anti-Russian protests.

Georgian authorities believe the damage could reach $ 710 million by the end of the year.
