The residents of the Yazidi village of Armavir region Feric relatives of General Manvel Grigoryan, who is serving a sentence in prison for illegal purchase and possession of weapons and embezzlement, fraudulently seized land, the only livelihood of the village.

Residents of the Yazidi village of Ferik closed the roads leading to the village for several months so that no one would try to use the illegally taken land.

The police, on September 11, made an attempt to open the roads, as a result of which the villagers began clashes with law enforcement officials.

The former head of the village Norik Hayrapetyan illegally sold the lands of the community to the relatives of Manvel Grigoryan Zarzand and Hrant Grigoryan, the latter was a Deputy of the National Assembly. After the revolution, the land was resold to a Lebanese businessman.

The above-mentioned agricultural land is the only means of subsistence of the Yazidi village, and if the occupation of the land continues, the Yazidis will be forced to emigrate from the village.

The Yazidi Centre for human rights calls for:

Residents of the community Ferik

* To continue peaceful, nonviolent protests in accordance with the law in order to prevent the loss of the only source of employment - agriculture, as well as migration from rural areas, thereby increasing the emigration of Yazidis from Armenia.

* Demonstrate respect for the representatives of the law and not to succumb to provocation.

Investigative bodies, human rights Defender

* Ensure a transparent investigation and identify the full range of offences.

* During the investigation of the criminal case, pay attention to the fact that Yazidis live in the village. If there is an element of ethnic discrimination in the case, do not ignore this fact.

* Full disclosure of other crimes against the Yazidis in the village.

* Demonstrate impartiality, objectivity and be guided by human rights-oriented principles.

Armavir regional administration

* Not to exert pressure on the head of the village or attempt to silence the villagers by violating their right to peaceful Assembly and to dispose of community property as they see fit.

* Not to interfere in the course of the case and not to make decisions that may give one or the other parties an advantage.

State administration bodies, the National Assembly:

* Demonstrate the political will to resolve the conflict.

* Develop mechanisms consistent with the logic of transitional justice that will ensure a quick and fair solution to such situations.

The Yazidi Centre for human rights continues to monitor developments and provide legal assistance to the community.
