More than 2.4 thousand internally displaced persons in Georgia will receive new apartments in 2019-2020, acting Minister of regional development and infrastructure Maya Tskitishvili said in Parliament.

Settlers-invaders will not be able to get housing in Georgia

Tskitishvili, like other members of the Cabinet, became acting at the beginning of the week due to the resignation of Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze. On Sunday, the Parliament will have to approve a new government headed by George Gakharia.

"Our Department takes care of housing for them and I am glad that in 2019-2020 in Zugdidi, Kutaisi and Tskaltubo 2440 families will receive new apartments," - said Tskitishvili.

To date, more than 283.2 thousand (more than 90.1 thousand families) of internally displaced persons from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia) live in Georgia. These territories have not been controlled by the Georgian authorities since the early 1990s.

By this time, more than 40 thousand families have received apartments, of which more than 19 thousand families - after the change of power in Georgia, since 2013.

In 2019-2020, gel 328 million (more than $ 111.1 million) was allocated to address the problems associated with internally displaced persons. According to the plan, another 6,000 families should receive new housing by the end of 2020.
