Leader of the ruling party, Irakli Kobakhidze, called the resignation of three vice-presidents of the National Bank of Georgia at once a “wonderful phenomenon”.

He said that the vice presidents who resigned were unreliable and it was assumed that they would fail at a critical moment.

“In the end, this is how it turned out. A very important provision was introduced, according to which the constitutional rights of Georgian citizens and Georgian companies cannot be violated, and the National Bank was also “cleared". From all this, the state has received an ideal picture,” Kobakhidze said.

Also, according to Kobakhidze, the opposition tried to “unleash a one-day plague” from the story with the order of the head of the National Bank, but nothing came of it.

The parliamentary majority approved new members for vacant seats on the Board of the National Bank, despite the fact that the president said she was withdrawing her proposal. Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee Paata Kvizhinadze told reporters that the process has already been launched and the president has no right to withdraw candidates.

·Acting President of the National Bank Natia Turnava signed an order according to which the bank accounts of Georgian citizens in the event of international sanctions can be blocked only if the verdict of the local court. The Georgian authorities stated that in this way they protect the presumption of innocence.

·In practice, this means postponing the application of sanctions indefinitely. After that, the dissenters, part of the board of the National Bank, resigned, the IMF and the US State Department expressed concern about the situation, and the largest Georgian banks said they would comply with international sanctions without exceptions.

·The reason for changing the sanctions regime was the story of former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, whom the United States imposed sanctions on for ties with the FSB. After that, it turned out that Partskhaladze has Russian citizenship and the Ministry of Justice of Georgia deprived him of Georgian. Thus, a court verdict is no longer needed to block Partskhaladze's accounts in Georgia, but this mechanism can be used in future cases.
