The Parliament discussed the amendment to the "Labor Code of Georgia" in the first reading and did not support the bill by 20 votes to 4. According to the amendment, instead of May 9, May 8 should be indicated in the list of holidays as "Victory Day over Fascism". Accordingly, May 8 will be declared a public holiday.

According to the speaker, member of the "Reform Group" Teona Akubardia, the purpose of the changes is to celebrate the "Victory Day over Fascism" in Georgia on May 8 together with the civilized West, and not with the occupying state, which is why the war continues not only against Georgia, but also against Ukraine and the seizure of sovereignty.

According to the leader of the parliamentary majority, Irakli Kobakhidze, the goal of the project is to split society.

"I don't think it's a harmless project. Regardless of whether May 8 is introduced by law, veterans will still celebrate the Victory over fascism on May 9. Everywhere you are trying to split and divide society, as in the case of August 7-8 and trying to postpone Christmas to December 25," Irakli Kobakhidze said.

The information is distributed by the press service of the Parliament of Georgia.
