Yazidis first participated in the world conference «Religions for peace»

More than 1000 participants gathered at the 10th world conference of the organization "Religions for peace" on the shores of lake Constance in the German city of Lindau. Yazidis at the conference is the Chairman of the Central Council of Yezidis in Germany Irfan Ortac.

The Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier opened the event as the host. In his speech, Steinmeier warned against using religion for political purposes.

"Religion should never be an excuse for hatred and violence. No war can be waged in the name of religion," said the President of Germany, speaking to the participants of the conference.  

According to the organizers, the conference will be attended by about 900 delegates representing more than 100 countries. The conference will continue its work until August 23.

"Religions for peace" is an international coalition of representatives of world religions, designed to promote peace, founded in 1970. Since 1973, it has been accredited as a non-governmental organization to the United Nations. The organization is headquartered in new York. The organization has repeatedly acted as a mediator in the settlement of military conflicts in different parts of the world.
