Trump and Macron agreed to invite Russia to the G7 in 2020

The President of the United States Donald trump accepted the offer of the French colleague Emmanuel Macron to invite Russia to the G7 summit in 2020 in the United States, CNN reports, citing high-ranking sources in the us administration.

According to the channel, the American and French presidents during a telephone conversation on Tuesday agreed that Russia should be invited to the summit of the "Big seven" next year. It is noted that the idea belonged to Macron.

Trump is expected to discuss this topic over the coming weekend at a meeting with G7 leaders. Earlier, the American leader said that he would not object to the return of Russia and the resumption of the G8 format.

On Monday, Vladimir Putin met with Macron, during which the Russian President called any contacts with the G7 countries useful and did not rule out the resumption of the G8 format.

The big seven is an international club that unites the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, the USA, France and Japan. In 1997, they were joined by Russia, after which the group became known as the "Big eight". Russia was excluded from it after the annexation of Crimea to Russia in 2014.
