Shehmand temple is an ancient Yazidi temple, according to the elders it is one of the oldest temples of the Yazidi people, located south of Mount Shangal (the mountain has the same name as the region) is not far from the Sharfadin Temple, where Yazidis held the defense against terrorists for 4 months in 2014.

ISIS exterminated Yazidis in Iraq in August 2014 and blew up 68 Yazidi temples and shrines, including the Shehmand temple, which was blown up on August 23, 2014. All of the clergy and elders were killed in the most horrific way. In 2020, with the support and funding of Nadia Murad's organization "Nadia's Initiative", Shehmand temple was rebuilt.

The roots of Yazidis are rooted along the ancient world through the science, philosophy, engineering, and antiquities they gave to humanity thousands of years ago.

Despite all the wars, Yazidis have never taken revenge because the Yazidi religion is based above all on love and respect, there is nothing in their spiritual texts that encourages murder, hatred or malice toward other peoples and religions.

Yazidi conscious youth in these difficult times should devote themselves to learning and knowledge, for the future of Yazidis depends only on an enlightened, literate intelligentsia of the Yazidi people.
