Garibashvili: The only right political decision would be to grant us the status
"I told European leaders that in this difficult geopolitical situation the only right political decision of Europe would be to grant us candidate status, otherwise it would be another injustice and a big strategic mistake", Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told journalists in Moldova, after the second summit of the European political community.
As the Prime Minister noted his European colleagues are in agreement with his opinion that the world and international community did not pay due attention to the war of 2008, which was a mistake and we are reaping the consequences of this mistake today.
I also had a conversation about the symbolic but great importance to our country of granting the next stage, candidate status. I told them that our country is fully prepared and around the end of June we will complete all the priorities and then the choice, the last word will be with Europe. I said that in this very difficult geopolitical situation, of course there is the only right political decision in Europe, to grant the status to Georgia, as they gave to Moldova and Ukraine. I said that otherwise it would be completely incomprehensible to us, it would be another injustice and it would be a very big strategic mistake. Our colleagues agree with me on this as well. I also had bilateral meetings, I had a conversation with President Michel and other European leaders, and I think everything will be very good, our main task is to maintain, and by the way, it was emphasized with great enthusiasm by everybody that we managed to maintain peace and stability despite the challenges that exist in our country and that we are moving forward. These were the main topics of conversation", said Irakli Garibashvili.
