Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, EU and Values - the Prime Minister of Georgia has set the accents
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili said at a ceremony on Independence Day that the government continues the course of European integration and maintains peace in the country, pointed to the Russian occupation, expressed support for Ukraine and spoke about the importance of traditional spiritual values.
About Ukraine, War and Peace
"The first enemy of freedom is war. Today our brotherly Ukrainian people are making enormous sacrifices to defend their freedom in the brutal war unleashed by Russia. Once again, I express my support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, and I wish a speedy end to war, peace, reconciliation, and freedom".
"Today, dear friends, when the threat of nuclear war is the most acute in history, our primary responsibility and duty is to maintain and strengthen peace, protect our people and save our country. As a result of our government's peace-loving policy, despite the many destructive attempts of detractors, internal and external enemies, Georgia remains an oasis of peace and stability in the region".
About European integration
"Last year we applied for accession to the European Union and received the European perspective from the European Union, which was a truly historic decision. All of this is the result of our government's work over the last ten years, it is our achievement, but we will continue to make every effort so that at the end of the year the country receives candidate status, which will be the beginning of a new stage of European Union integration.
In today's difficult geopolitical situation, we, the government of Georgia and the Georgian people are waiting for the only right and just decision from Europe ... to grant candidate status to the European Union”.
About the occupation
"Today, if there is any shadow on the triumph of our freedom, it is the temporary occupation of our territories by Russia...
I deeply believe that unity is the way to freedom for Georgians, Abkhazians, Ossetians and all citizens living on this land. We wish that every citizen, including the population living on the territories currently occupied by Russia, would equally benefit from the progress and development achieved by Georgia... I believe in our common future, which we will create only by peaceful efforts based on mutual understanding and respect".
