Elders and spiritual leaders encourage the Yazidi population to return to their ancestral homeland.

In the past few days, after the Iraqi government attempted to return some ISIS families suspected of aiding and abetting terrorists, extremists on social media have vilified the Yazidi people and religion in the burning and looting of the al-Rahman mosque in the Sinjar region, * (the mosque was vandalized in 2020 during a standoff between Shia and Sunni Islam).

Yazidi activists have in their possession video clips of several young men in the Zaho neighborhood threatening residents of displaced Yazidi camps, particularly the Jam Misko camp. The director of the Zaho administration later reassured the displaced people, stressing that these were just threats from radicals and that the displaced people were safe.

Yazidi activist Murad Ismail believes that sooner or later Yazidis will be persecuted because of the environment in which they live.

Ismail posted the following on his personal Facebook page: "We have not and will not allow any attacks on any religious place, and our morals do not accept it. At the same time, we emphasize the need to bring to justice the extremists who incited people to declare us Yazidis as unbelievers."

At the same time, Haydar Shasho, leader of the Yazidi militia, said: "The radical imams who appeared in the video do not accept other religions and are thus no different from ISIS terrorists, they must be brought to justice, and if they are not brought to justice, it means that the government supports them. The Yazidi people and religion are one and cannot be a burden or an object of ridicule.

Yazidis in displaced persons camps should never receive such provocative hateful messages from anyone and voluntarily return to Shangal.

Shangal is not the same Shangal as it was before, and this time we will be able to defend ourselves and will not give the enemy a single meter of our ancestral land.

And after the hour of reckoning has come, even for life there is no other way but to return to our homes as soon as possible", Haidar Shasho said.
