At the plenary session of the Parliament of Georgia, the head of the permanent delegation of the legislative body to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Irakli Chikovani, presented a report on the activities of the delegation for 2022.

"In 2022, for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, as well as for us, one of the most important issues was the situation in Ukraine caused by Russia's aggression, and the resulting decision to exclude Russia from the Council of Europe and, accordingly, the preparation of a new summit in May 2023, at which further steps of the organization should be planned". - said Irakli Chikovani.

According to him, the Georgian delegation was one of the main delegations that supported the exclusion of the Russian Federation from the Council of Europe at a special session convened by the Council of Europe.

As the head of the Georgian delegation noted, several resolutions on the situation in Ukraine were adopted in PACE in 2022, during which the members of the Georgian delegation, both representatives of the majority and the opposition, unequivocally supported these documents, with the exception of one resolution, in which an entry was made about the third president of Georgia.

"This resolution had nothing to do with Georgia, the situation in Georgia or democratic reforms. It was an attempt that was quite successfully implemented by representatives of the European People's Party and the speaker of this resolution", Irakli Chikovani said.

At the same time, according to him, the resolution initiated by the Monitoring Committee on Georgia and adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly reflected the very great progress made by Georgia in matters of democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights.
