Tbilisi City Hall has announced the completion of the reconstruction of the Gotsiridze metro station – from today, it will serve passengers.

Mayor Kakha Kaladze once again apologized to the townspeople for the fact that the station was closed for a long time.

“The problem was that we had to change two contractors,” Kaladze said.

During the reconstruction, the exterior and interior of the station were updated, the passenger boarding platform now has a roof, the station has been adapted for people with disabilities – two elevators and tactile paths have been installed. The electrical system has been completely replaced, the premises for staff have been updated. The project budget was 4.7 million GEL.

Residents of Tbilisi have been waiting for the opening of the station for more than two years – the mayor's office promised that the repair would last three months.

The authorities attributed the delay in the repair of the station to problems with the contractor company, as well as technical difficulties of the project.

Gotsiridze is one of the two ground stations of the Tbilisi metro. Unlike the neighboring Didube station, the Gotsiridze platform did not protect passengers from rain or wind.

At first, the repair was carried out by a branch of the Kaizen company, the contract with which was terminated, the company was fined and put on the "black list". In November 2021, the Tbilisi Transport Company signed an agreement with a new contractor — the Mamisoni company, which was also dissatisfied with its work and terminated the contract.

Gotsiridze station was opened on January 11, 1966, since then its appearance has hardly changed, only the reconstruction of the tracks was carried out.

Until 2011, the station was called "Electrodepo" and in 2011 it was renamed in honor of the head of metrostroy — Viktor Gotsiridze.

The Tbilisi Metro consists of 23 stations on two lines – Akhmeteli-Varketilskaya and Saburtalinskaya. The total length of the metro lines is 57 kilometers, of which the first line is 40 kilometers, and the second is 17 kilometers.
