A meeting of the Economic Council was held in the Government administration under the leadership of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.

According to the government administration, the members of the Economic Council reviewed the current situation and concrete steps towards reducing fuel prices from the head of the National Competition Agency Irakli Lekvinadze. It is noted that in February, a decrease of 30-40 tetri was recorded for fuel. The conversation touched upon the current situation with the reduction of food prices and the draft law on fair trade, which the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development is working on behalf of the Head of Government. It was noted that it is important to keep prices low and not to sell basic products with an unreasonably high margin.

The members of the Economic Council also considered the construction project of the deep-water port of Anaklia. It was noted that an international tender for the construction of the port has already been announced. According to the government's decision, work on the construction of the port will begin in 2023. The conversation touched upon plans for the development of existing ports.

Among the issues discussed was the positive inflation rate in the country. It is noted that in February 2023, the annual inflation rate was 8.1 percent compared to the previous month, the price level decreased by 0.3 percent, and the annual inflation rate decreased by 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous month. Inflation in Georgia has passed its peak period and after May 2022 tends to decrease. The decrease in the price level compared to the previous month clearly indicates a significant decrease in inflationary pressure.
