Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili expressed "serious concern" that unconstitutional statements are being made in the country's parliament.

"The supreme law of the country obliges the constitutional bodies to take all measures to ensure Georgia's full integration into the European Union. Full integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Organization is the goal proclaimed by the Constitution of Georgia.

The activities of political parties that contradict the principles of the Constitution, the path chosen by our country and its population, should be recognized as unconstitutional and prohibited", the president said in a statement.

Thus, the President commented on the beginning of the discussion in Parliament of the bill on foreign agents. The adoption of the law on foreign agents is supported by the ruling party.

Mikheil Kavelashvili, one of the authors of the projects, a representative of the parliamentary majority and a member of the Power of the People movement, said that "the European Union is not our goal in itself."

Earlier, the EU External Relations Service stated that the draft law on "agents of foreign influence" contradicts the recommendations of 12 points that Georgia must fulfill in order to obtain the status of a candidate.

Kavelashvili called the EU criticism interference in the internal affairs of the country.

"The European Union is not our goal in itself. I want the European Union so that justice is protected ... no one should tell me that I am committing an anti-state and anti-law act, and that if I do this, I will not become a member of the EU", Kavelashvili said.

· Georgia's integration into the European Union and NATO are called the country's foreign policy goals in the Constitution. Article 78 of the Constitution of Georgia: "The constitutional bodies shall take all measures within their powers to ensure Georgia's full integration into the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization".
