The trial of a Dutch citizen who was a member of ISIS has become a new addition to justice for the Yazidis, activists called it a "victory" of justice, in addition to the fact that this process means the internationalization of the case. The defendant is accused of belonging to terrorist organizations and of enslaving and selling Yazidi women.

Nihad al-Qadi, Secretary General of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of National Minorities in Iraq, said in an interview that bringing to justice the criminals of ISIS, without a doubt, is a very important matter and step. Among the crimes are very old and rejected by all countries of the world, indicating that European countries are interested in bringing criminals to justice, even their own citizens.

He believes that the trial of ISIS criminals, whether in Iraq or abroad, is an important issue because it gives the judiciary a role in bringing ISIS criminals to justice and is a deterrent to any other crimes that may go without legal responsibility, and thus justice will prevail for the Yazidis.

The Netherlands was not the first country to persecute its citizens who joined ISIS and committed crimes against the Yazidi population in 2014. Germany has taken the first steps to achieve justice for the Yazidi victims by prosecuting a number of ISIL members for committing crimes and participating in the genocide of the Yazidi population.

It is noteworthy that in 2021, the UN investigative team announced at a briefing on the invasion of ISIS in Iraq that it had found "clear and convincing evidence that crimes against the Yazidis clearly constitute genocide." The team also managed to identify 1,444 possible criminals involved in the crime of genocide against Yazidis.
