Modernization of the checkpoint "Upper Lars", which plans to hold the Russian side, will have a positive impact on the traffic of trucks and cars. However, the effect of this measure will appear only in the summer, but in winter the situation on the road leading to Lars, will still be difficult. Experts in Armenia and Georgia are sure of this.

Russia in 2020, intends to reconstruct the checkpoint "Upper Lars". At the same time, the capacity will be increased to 3,800 vehicles per day. Initially, during the construction of the checkpoint it was assumed that 170 trucks, 200 cars and 30 buses should pass through it per day. Meanwhile, in 2019, on average, about 650 trucks and about 1,700 cars a day pass through The upper Lars. In the busiest season (from late may to September), these figures rise sharply.

General Secretary of the Association of international cargo carriers of Georgia Gia Tsipuria in an interview with Sputnik Armenia noted that the modernization of the checkpoint will have a positive impact on traffic. This will reduce the time spent at the checkpoint by almost half, which will make life easier for many importers.

The importance of the highway is increasing taking into account the fact that today transport highways have become more active not only from West to East, but also from North to South. Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus are interested in developing relations with Iran, and through it with Asian countries. These countries can reach Iran through Armenia.
