According to the statement of the Minister of Health Zurab Azarashvili, the pharmaceutical sector is given a deadline for reviewing the prices of medicines until January 31.
If the sector presents reasonable arguments on the prices of any medicine, it will be considered by a special council established under the Ministry.
According to the Minister, the establishment of reference prices is one of the components of the reform, the purpose of which is to provide citizens with the most affordable and high–quality healthcare and medicines.
The Minister also spoke about the mechanisms of control and enforcement, and noted that various kinds of sanctions will be applied to violators of regulations.
This is a very important mechanism not only for the purposes of reference prices, but also for purposes related to the issuance of electronic prescriptions, the movement of medicines around the country, so as not to create an artificial shortage, etc.", Zurab Azarashvili said.
According to the Minister of Health, the department is simultaneously working on the creation of a drug traceability system.
According to his explanation, through this system, anyone, as well as the regulator, will be able to easily receive information related to the drug through a barcode.
