The disagreements greatly influenced the internationalization of the Yazidi problem and its expression through various international platforms, which led to a kind of coldness towards the Yazidi problem at the international level.

The division goes from a label to a geographical space and a fundamental event of collective identity.

At the level of geographical space, the dispute over the name of the most famous city of Yazidis continues. While Kurdish parties use the name "Shingal", the Arabic name "Sinjar" has been adopted in the official media since the establishment of the Iraqi State in 1921. The division by nomenclature goes beyond a linguistic dispute, and is subject to political recruitment, which serves the idea of a conflict over the lands of Yazidis and their identity.

While Yazidi elites unanimously agreed on the decisive impact of the "genocide" on the institutional identity of Yazidis, disagreements arose over the consequences of the recent genocide (the 2014 ISIS attack) on the Yazidi identity.

After Yazidi community maintained its social cohesion, presence on its land and universal religious inviolability for a long time, the 2014 genocide led to a collapse within the community and caused a shock that led to a collapse of trust in the entire Yazidi elite and leaders.

In addition, disagreements raged within Yazidi elites over the use of terms that do not carry a legal connotation to denote genocide, such as: catastrophe, tragedy, suffering.

But isn't mass murder, violence, rape, slavery, and persecution based on national and ethnic identity genocide?

While Christian activists support referring to the atrocities committed by ISIS as "genocide of Yazidis, Christians and other minorities," this idea causes accusations among Yazidis of misunderstanding the horrors committed against the specific Yazidi minority. The rivalry is explained by the federal government's disregard of the official memory of the genocide of Yazidis, which Yazidis see as a sign of neglect and disrespect of Yazidi people by those who doubt the term genocide over Yazidi people.

While the voices of the elites view the split as a natural phenomenon within society, the majority emphasizes the need to achieve a state of internal stability, which leads to having a real voice at the legislative and executive levels, demanding legal and constitutional rights and uniting the discourse on the platform of the international community, especially at the level of resolving this issue. Yazidis in competent international courts and recognition of the genocide of Yazidi people by ISIS terrorists. Then achieving justice for the victims as the first step towards building a comprehensive and sustainable peace and preventing the recurrence of crimes against Yazidi community in the future.
