Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze criticizes the U.S. Embassy's statement on the controversial wiretapping legislation and says that there are mistakes in the statements of the embassy.

According to Kobakhidze, it is a lie that the wiretapping law doesn’t comply with European standards. According to him, neither the partners, nor the president, nor the Venice Commission were able to provide legal commentary on the said law.

"Ask anyone, including the embassy, what standard is broken there. No one will be able to tell you. Six months have passed and not even one comment has been made. Unfortunately, lies have crept into the embassy statement. And the second paragraph of the statement, call it a lie or whatever you want, should be evaluated with all severity.

They say that the law was purposely adopted to control citizens. It is not clear - it is written in English as monitoring, in Georgian as control. There is even a difference in translation", he said.

Kobakhidze assured that law is designed to control criminals, from which the politician concluded that the US Embassy "compares criminals to citizens".

"I don't know why such mistakes regularly creep into the statements of the embassy. It is very difficult for us," the politician stressed.

At the same time, the chairman of the ruling party said that such statements contribute to polarization and expressed the hope that in the future the embassy will pay more attention to its position.
