In Syria, radicals cut down more than 300,000 olive trees of Yazidi gardeners

According to local Yazidi horticulturist Bakr Sipki, Syrian Islamist groups have cut down more than 650,000 trees since 2018 in the Kurdish enclave of Afrin, where there are also several Yazidi villages, most of whose residents are gardeners or rather have olive plantations.

Based on a report by local Yazidi activists and human rights organizations, 300 000 olive trees belonging to Yazidi gardeners were cut down or uprooted.

Such barbaric acts are carried out by Sultan Murad's Division (a terrorist organization), an armed group in Syria mainly accused of kidnapping for ransom and exporting olive trees. Earlier, local activists warned that armed groups usually sell trees in a market organized by them and some other groups control the timber trade in the border areas.

Photos have circulated on social media showing the enormous damage done to forests in Syria.
