Garibashvili presented a project for the construction of an artificial Palm Island in Batumi

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili laid the foundation for the construction in the water area of ​​the Batumi City of the Artificial Palm Island. 

"Today we are launching a unique, world-class project that is truly outstanding in the Black Sea region”, Garibashvili noted, adding that the project would contribute to the growth of the “already strong” international reputation of Batumi and the economic progress of Adjara — Garibashvili said at the presentation. According to him, "this project has complied with the environmental and safety standards”.

Laying a commemorative capsule, the Prime Minister said again that despite the difficult situation in the world, the country has preserved peace, stability and strong economic development.

"We need to implement such truly unique projects in the country today. Implementation of large-scale projects… The fact that the group has started to implement such a large-scale project shows once again that unique conditions have been created in Georgia today. You know that we have double—digit economic growth, at the same time you know perfectly well that the whole world is facing the biggest challenges today, recession is almost everywhere and we have preserved, first of all, peace, stability and strong economic development", Garibashvili said.

At the end of July, the government awarded the status of a "special object" to the project of an artificial "Palm Island" in the Black Sea in Batumi – it was added to the list of objects of special importance.

Amendments have been made to the Government decree "On the Procedure for Issuing Permits and Permitting conditions for the Construction of Objects of Special Importance (including radiation or nuclear)".

Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili stressed at the presentation that the "construction permit" has already been received.  

According to the project, about a hundred villas and a 500-room hotel will be located on the islands. Shopping centers, an aqua park, a yacht club, educational institutions and an embankment will also be deployed there.
