The administrator of the Sinuni subdistrict, Hedida Joki, said that the number of Yazidi families leaving Iraq for Europe is growing.

Joki told the Shafaq news agency that more than 3,500 members of the Yazidi community recently left Iraq, noting that more than 4,000 passports were issued to Yazidis in one month.

According to Joki, Yazidis were pushed to make such decisions for many reasons, including the genocide they suffered at the hands of the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group, as well as the poor living conditions and unresolved problems in Shangal that they still face today.

For his part, the head of the Alend organization, Shiraz Mohammed, said that 1,273 people had left Iraq illegally in less than a month, heading to Europe via Turkey.

To this day, more than 3,000 Yazidis are still missing since the IS invasion of Shangal in 2014, while more than 1,400 families have fled their homes in the area due to deteriorating economic conditions.
