Truckers and car drivers in Sinjar district have to wait three days to get (diesel fuel). The reasons for these queues is the closure of all private gas stations in the area.

On June 28, the Federal Government of Iraq decided to close private gas stations in Sinjar due to lack of work permits. The closed stations are the main source of kerosene for refueling vehicles with so-called contraband fuel.

According to the observations of local media, the share of diesel fuel in Sinjar is three or even four times less than during the period when private gas stations were operating.

Falah Khidr, a local Yazidi and co-owner of one of the closed private stations in Sinjar, said: "We have suffered great losses, and no one wants to solve our problem. Since 2010, when I opened my gas station, no one asked us for work permits, we paid the right people both in Kurdistan and in Iraq and we do not know what happened right now."

The Sinjar district administration stated that they are trying to solve the problem of the fuel crisis by increasing the quota of gasoline for Sinjar. The shortage of kerosene for truck owners and private generators is another big problem of the district. A number of private generator owners in Sinjar have gone on strike, demanding an increase in their share of kerosene.

There are 20 private gas stations in Sinjar district, all of them were forcibly closed without finding a solution to the problem. There are two state gas stations in Sinjar, one in the district center and the other in the Sinun district.
