Tourist stories about the Yazidis of Armenia
Many tourists come to Armenia and sometimes they write about meetings with Yazidis. Thus, one family visited the Yazidis, who for the summer go with livestock to mountain pastures (Zozan). Below is an excerpt from their publication by Ekaterina about her visit to Armenia:
"Yazidis are a people who love freedom, who have been trying for centuries to preserve their identity: history, culture, traditions, language and religion and Yazidis are one of the most ancient peoples in the world. Yazidi women made a particularly strong impression on us. Elderly women who have already raised children mostly live in mountain camps and young people with small children often stay at home.
Almost all of us have a dramatic discrepancy inside between the traditional role of a mother-wife and modern reality. Completely different requirements, values, desires and temptations, which are very difficult to combine with each other.
And Yazidi women seemed to me so harmonious, so whole... How majestic are the mountains around! Without all that drama and contradiction inside.
And although we had almost no common language, I felt somehow very warm, comfortable and joyful next to them in a feminine way. It was and it is difficult to describe in words", Katerina about the meeting with the Yazidis of Armenia.
