According to Saada, who has been living in the Khanke displaced persons camp in Dohuk for eight years, the food provided to them by the Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons of Iraq has never been suitable for use, despite the fact that children and the elderly can take them.
The food rations that Baghdad sent to the camp residents last May included five kilograms of rice, three bags of vegetable oil, three bags of flour, tomato paste, beans, chickpeas, lentils, sugar and tea.
Each displaced Yezidi family has one or more cards, each of which gives them a food basket and a box of detergents. Since the beginning of 2022, the ration has been given only twice in 8 months, despite the fact that 2 boxes per month should be given.
The poor quality of food sent by the Iraqi government comes at a time when international organizations have stopped their assistance to displaced people in Kurdistan, including the World Food Program (WFP), which this year decided to stop the financial assistance that it provided monthly to camp residents.
European donors stopped supplying humanitarian aid after discovering that 80% of their humanitarian aid was being sold and stolen by local Kurdish and Iraqi officials.
The Ministry of Migration and Displaced Persons of Iraq received complaints from residents of the camp and promised to solve the problem in the coming months. According to the Ministry's promises, a better distribution of food aid to camp residents is planned in September.
