Suicide rates have increased again in the Yazidi community of Iraq, most of them young girls and women, the reason for this is psychological factors due to the conditions in which the Yazidi community found itself after the 2014 genocide.
The provision of support and psychological treatment is the main part of the law on surviving Yazidi women, approved by the Iraqi Parliament in March 2021, as well as the provision of compensation to them. According to the Yazidi journalist Diab Ganem, it is becoming increasingly difficult for women, especially surviving Yazidis, because they do not receive any significant psychological support, which makes their life even more difficult, so women are committing suicide.
The director of the Yazidi organization in Sinjar, Khairy Ali Ibrahim, believes that the majority of suicides are among the younger generation and this indicates that these people face many problems. Ibrahim does not deny that it is not limited to psychological reasons, but there are also cases of extortion in order to start work, pushing some girls to suicide and they are a small percentage compared to the number of suicides due to psychological reasons.

Haji, the pseudonym of a 19-year-old Yezidi girl displaced to Dahuk in Kurdistan, tells of suicidal thoughts she wanted to realize. The girl says that she repeatedly came up with the idea to get rid of the hell of displacement and extreme poverty. Haji says that she cannot live like any other girl, especially in the captivity of ISIS terrorists, she saw that suicide is the only way to alleviate suffering, as well as ease the burden of the family. The girl's sister dissuaded and forbade her to even think about it, especially since this act, according to the Yezidi religion, is a great sin that will have disastrous consequences for the family.
