Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Georgia Zhou Jiang. The information is distributed by the press service of the government administration.

The head of government wished success to the newly appointed ambassador and expressed hope that the fruitful cooperation between Georgia and China will continue in the future. It was noted that China is among the five largest trade partners of Georgia, and the trade turnover between Georgia and China in January-June this year amounted to $922 million. The conversation also touched upon Chinese investments and it was said that the total volume of foreign direct investment from China exceeds 695 million US dollars, which is welcomed by the Georgian side. During the meeting, attention was paid to the tourism sector. It was emphasized that direct flights between Georgia and China contribute to the dynamic growth of tourists. In addition, the hope was expressed that the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Georgia and China, which is an annual event, will be held in the near future. Attention was drawn to the importance of maintaining the positive dynamics of visits at a high level. It was said that Georgia appreciates the support of the China for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

Attention was also paid to strengthening bilateral ties in the educational and scientific spheres. It was emphasized that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Georgia and China.
