Kurdistan: Discussion of the national strategy to prevent the genocide of the Yezidi minority between Baghdad and Erbil

A special meeting was held in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, to discuss the national strategy to prevent the genocide of the Yezidi minority. In the presence and participation of Yezidi civil activists and several Kurdish officials.

The strategy, which was previously presented in Baghdad by a group of Yezidi organizations, primarily the International Yezidi Foundation against Genocide (Geneva), the Masarat Foundation in Baghdad, the UNESCO Department for Combating Genocide in the Islamic World at Baghdad University, and the Human Rights Organization in Erbil. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Baghdad Gallery Center for Public Policy.

As for the second session in Erbil, it was held at the headquarters of the Muhakik organization. The session in Erbil was aimed at presenting and discussing by experts and stakeholders the issues of strategy development and ensuring the participation of actors in the formulation of concepts and strategies with aspects of development, mass media, culture, security, social and legal aspects within the general framework of creating and laying the foundation for a strategy to prevent the genocide of representatives of national minorities.

In his first speech, Mr. Hasso Khormi, President of the International Yezidi Foundation against Genocide, who holds the position of consultant at the United Nations, presented the international aspects of the national strategy to combat genocide and the reasons for its emergence.

The second presentation was entitled "National Strategy for Combating Genocide: Cultural, Media and educational aspects", delivered by Dr. Saad Salloum, Professor of Political Science at Al-Mustansiria University and General Coordinator.

The third speech was devoted to the legal, judicial, and legislative aspects of the national strategy for combating genocide by Ahmed Miran, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Investigative Organization for the Rule of Law.

It is worth noting that the national strategy for the prevention of genocide in Iraq was launched in Baghdad in the middle of this month by a group of organizations to raise awareness about the dangers of inciting hatred, discrimination and violence leading to mass murder.
