"The decision [of the EU Council] taken on the issue of Moldova and Ukraine was very cheap. Granting these countries, the status of a candidate in a geopolitically very difficult situation costs us nothing. They may have to stay on standby forever, as we have seen in the case of Turkey and the Western Balkans. Candidate status was the last thing that European leaders could do without financial obligations. The unity of the EU and the provision of a goal to Ukrainians when they are waging a terrible war is good.

As for Georgia, the country has a problem. In the past, it has always been at the forefront of reforms, the fight against corruption, and the modernization of society. But now they have taken a completely wrong direction. And instead of filling this crack, they are increasing it and complicating the decision of the European Council to grant them the same status as Ukraine and Moldova.

Only the bottom line is fair: first do your homework, and only then will you be granted the status that we have granted to the other two countries."

MEP Viola von Cramon, in an interview with Euroactive, commented on the decision of Brussels to grant the status of a candidate for EU membership to Ukraine and Moldova, and Georgia to confirm the European perspective with the requirement to carry out several reforms to obtain such status by the end of the year.
