The Cabinet of Ministers authorized the Ministry of Finance to allocate 1.5 billion dinars (about one million dollars) to the Joint Operational Command to strengthen security in Sinjar.

One of the local officials told local media that the problem of ensuring security in Sinjar does not require financial allocations, but rather requires the introduction of state power and the law, the provision and withdrawal of all illegal military groups, as well as the return of all local Yezidi refugees and displaced persons.

According to one of the residents, financial allocations can go to the reconstruction and restoration of infrastructure in the Sinjar area, but, unfortunately, the funding is aimed at introducing security measures.

Tensions between the Yazidi Self-defense Forces and the Iraqi army have been observed from time to time in the Sinjar region, the last of which occurred last month, clashes between the army and Yazidi forces, which, according to the Iraqi authorities, are associated with the PKK, have been recorded.

The Iraqi government stated that there should no longer be any military groups on the territory of Sinjar except for the state army and police.

On October 9, 2020, Baghdad and Erbil signed an agreement called "historic", providing for the maintenance of security in the Sinjar area by federal security forces, in coordination with Peshmerga forces associated with the Kurdistan region, the expulsion of all armed groups and an end to the PKK.

The agreement between Baghdad and Erbil regarding the Sinjar area has not yet been implemented on the ground, and this is a clear sign of the lack of state authority, the Iraqi government is aware of what is happening in Sinjar but does nothing for positive results.

Sinjar district, the original home of the Yazidi people in Iraq, which is a major point of contention and even a point of internal and international conflict, starting with the struggle of Kurdistan and the federal government over it after its liberation from ISIS in 2014.
